The 2021 Nissan Frontier features a powerful engine and versatile drivetrain. It runs on a 3.8L V6 engine that gets up to 310-HP and 281 lb.-ft. of torque - all handled by a 9-speed automatic transmission and Vehicle Dynamic Control with a Traction Control System. It can carry a payload up to 1,460 pounds and can tow up to 6,720 pounds…impressive! All that power, and it still has incredible efficiency with 18-City/24-Hwy MPG.
While the Ranger is certainly a worthy competitor in terms of performance, its Intercooled Turbo engine only puts out 270-HP and has a towing capacity of just 3,500 pounds. Even though the Ranger is less powerful than the Frontier, you'll be hitting the gas station more often with a 21-City/26-Hwy MPG.
Interior, Comfort, & Convenience
The Frontier features two cab sizes - the King Cab that comfortably seats four passengers and the Crew Cab that has a seating capacity for five. Both cabs come standard with cloth seats, but leather upholstery and a leather-wrapped steering wheel are available upgrades. Each cab offers a sliding rear window and power-adjustable front seats. Other notable features and available upgrades include:
- Push-button ignition
- Dual-Zone Automatic Temperature Control
- Multi-level center console
- Dual glove compartment
- Cruise control
- Keyless entry
- Backup camera
- Power lock doors
- Available heated front seats
- Available auto-dimming rearview mirror
- Available removable under-seat storage trays
The Ranger also comfortably seats up to five people and has ample passenger space and cargo capacity, however, it doesn't have nearly as many standard features as the Frontier. The backup camera, keyless entry, cruise control, and power mirrors come at an additional cost.
All Frontier trims come standard with a 7-inch touchscreen display in the center of the dashboard that helps you park, stay connected, and line up with your trailer with the RearView Monitor. Lots of smartphone compatible features let you stream music, use your apps, make calls, and reply to text messages - all without having to take your hands off the wheel.
Notable standard technology features include:
- Bluetooth® Hands-Free Phone System & Streaming Audio
- Hands-free Text Messaging Assistant
- Apple CarPlay®
- Android Auto™
In comparison to the Frontier, the Ranger falls short on standard technology features…big time. All of the standard features you see above, they're optional upgrades in the Ranger. So, you can have them, but it'll cost you!
