The Nissan Sentra and the Toyota Corolla are a couple stylish compact cars. They each offer sharp handling, a sporty design, and lots of fun features. Which one is right for you, though? To help drivers in Homosassa Springs, Lecanto, and Citrus Hills, FL, decide, the team at Maus Nissan of Crystal River had them face off in this 2020 Nissan Sentra vs. Toyota Corolla comparison.

Performance Specs

The 2020 Nissan Sentra runs on a lively 2.0L 4-cylinder engine that gets up to 149 horsepower and 146 lb-ft of torque. This works with an efficient Xtronic CVT® (Continuously Variable Transmission). While this combination delivers a smooth ride and good fuel economy, the drivetrain can help you take tight turns and maintain traction. The standard Front-Wheel Drive system includes both Vehicle Dynamic Control and a Traction Control System.

The 2020 Toyota Corolla also runs on Front-Wheel Drive and features a CVT. It can't give you as much power, though. Its 1.8L 4-cylinder engine only offers up to 139 horsepower and 126 lb-ft of torque.

Safety Features

In addition to delivering a fun, efficient drive, the Nissan Sentra also gives you peace of mind. It comes with 10 airbags and lots of smart driver-assistance features. You'll have more awareness during your drive with standard technology such as:

  • Blind Spot Warning
  • Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection
  • Rear Cross Traffic Alert
  • Lane Departure Warning

A RearView Monitor also comes standard to give you a better look at what's behind your vehicle when you're backing up. To see every angle of your car, you can add an Intelligent Around View® Monitor. It uses a series of cameras to create an overhead view.

The Toyota Corolla comes with some similar driver-assistance features, but it doesn't include a Blind Spot Warning on every trim level. While it also has a backup camera, there's nothing offered that can give you a bird's-eye view. Plus, the interior isn't quite as well protected with only eight airbags.

Passenger & Cargo Room

Both the Nissan Sentra and the Toyota Corolla offer seating for five riders and come with standard cloth seats. The Nissan gives you a little more room to relax, though, with 44 inches of front legroom. The Toyota may feel a little more cramped up front with just 42 inches of legroom.

Your passengers will also be in for a more comfortable ride in the Nissan with Dual Zone Automatic Temperature Control. Plus, it has a more exciting design by offering both Sport Cloth and Sport leatherette seats with orange contrast stitching. The Toyota Corolla also offers leatherette seats but doesn't give you the same edgy accents.

You'll also be able to carry more cargo in the Nissan Sentra. It has space for all your groceries and beach gear with 14.3 cubic feet of cargo room. The Toyota Corolla has a slightly smaller trunk with only 13.1 cubic feet of cargo room.
