The Nissan Altima and the Kia Optima are two of the most stylish and reliable cars on the road. With smart safety features and good fuel economy, both midsize sedans are good options for drivers in Homosassa Springs, Lecanto, and Citrus Hills, FL. Which one is right for you, though? To help you decide, the team at Maus Nissan of Crystal River had them face off in this 2020 Nissan Altima vs. Kia Optima comparison.

Performance Specs

The 2020 Nissan Altima can cover a lot of ground in between stops for gas. Its 2.5L 4-cylinder engine can get up to an EPA-estimated 28 city/39 highway MPG.i To give you that good fuel economy, it features an efficient Xtronic CVT® (Continuously Variable Transmission).

The Kia Optima also offers solid fuel economy, but it's not quite as efficient as the Altima. With the available 1.6L 4-cylinder engine, it only gets up to an EPA-estimated 27 city/37 highway MPG, which is higher than its standard offering.

The Nissan also offers a more exciting performance. The available 2.0L 4-cylinder turbocharged engine can deliver up to 248 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque. The Kia's most powerful engine is also a 2.0L 4-cylinder, but it can only get up to 245 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque.

Safety Features

On top of its convenient fuel economy, the Nissan Altima also offers peace of mind. It helps keep you safe with eight airbags and lots of driver-assistance features. With Nissan Safety Shield® 360, you'll have more awareness while you drive. It helps prevent accidents with technology such as:

  • Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection
  • Lane Departure Warning
  • Blind Spot Warning
  • Rear Cross Traffic Alert
  • RearView Monitor

While the RearView Monitor gives you a better look at what's behind you, the Intelligent Around View® Monitor can give you a bird's-eye view. It uses a series of cameras to give you a 360-degree look at what's around your SUV.

The Kia Optima comes with similar driver-assistance features, but it doesn't offer anything that can create an overhead view for you. Plus, with only seven airbags, the interior isn't quite as well protected, either.

Infotainment System

The Altima also keeps you connected with the user-friendly infotainment system. An 8-inch touch-screen on top of the dashboard comes standard. It includes a Bluetooth® Hands-free Phone System, a Hands-free Text Messaging Assistant, Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™.

While Bluetooth® also makes it easy to stream your favorite playlists and podcasts, SiriusXM® Radio comes standard to give you some variety.

The Kia also includes an 8-inch touch-screen and lots of the same smartphone compatibility. However, neither a hands-free text messaging assistant nor SiriusXM® comes standard.
